They now sit $3.49 and $3.62 below last Tuesdays close. The cutout is certainly under pressure and this weeks short kill is only thing keeping it from going lower. We could see a steady to slightly higher cutout over the next 7-10 days due to this small holiday week slaughter, but after that it is expected to turn lower again. Slaughter numbers will be key to watch in December. If packers run 660k plus for December, the market will need to search hard for prices to buy back the demand that these high summer and fall prices destroyed. Boxed beef sold for export last week was down 11% from the prior week but up 47% from the same week last year. During the first six months of 2021 export volume was 17% above 2020, but so far during the last six months of the year they are down 9%. Looking across the entire year so far exports are up 7%. It has been a roller coaster ride for exports this year but overall they have been strong.
